As time nearing to COP14, Dr Samy Zalat, chairman of Nature and Science Foundation and member in the Scientific Committee of COP14, participated in a national workshop on the integration of biodiversity into the development sectors and prepare Egypt's vision for the phase following 2020 strategic plan. The workshop comes in light of Egypt’s preparations to host the Conference on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 14), which will be held from 13-29 November 2018 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

The workshop was held by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung/Egypt office, in cooperation with the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs from 2-4 September at Pyramisa Dokki Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. It was very informative and well presented as it included sessions on The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and its terms and goals, UN Biodiversity Conference, Egypt's role in COP14, African Biodiversity Summit, integration of biodiversity into industry, agriculture, tourism, energy, health, mining, fisheries and forestry and infrastructure, and many more. On the 3rd day of the workshop, professor Zalat gave a presentation on biodiversity and climate change, which are widely recognized as interconnected since conserving and sustainably managing biodiversity is critical to addressing climate change.
